Andrew Godfrey 1971 to 1978
Andrew Godfrey arrived at St Mary’s in September 1971, one of four boys to arrive from St Joseph’s Primary, Plaistow Lane, Bromley - the others being Paul Geradine, Simon Plant and Andrew Mattison.
Andrew was followed to St Mary’s by his younger brothers David (1972) and Matthew (1978).
A talented all-rounder, Andrew gained ten O-Levels in the summer of 1976, sharing the Smith Trophy for outstanding achievement in Science at O-Level with Christopher Carr, Mark Hayward and Adrian Treloar.
He also shared the fifth form prizes for French and Maths with Keith Hollins. After doing a third year in the sixth form, Andrew went on to read Medicine at Leicester University in the summer of 1979.
During his five years at Leicester he met his wife, Andrea Bone, and the couple were married in 1984. He and Andrea both trained to be general practitioners and, between 1989 and 2019, Andrew was a partner at Bedworth Health Centre until his retirement.
Andrew and Andrea live in Nuneaton and have three children. David Godfrey headed to Trinity College, Oxford in 1979 to study Mathematics and Matthew went to Southampton University in 1985 to study Engineering.
Andrew says that, apart from his brothers, he hasn’t seen anyone from St Mary’s in many years though he does exchange Christmas cards with Paul Geradine each year.
